There are 3 light houses in the area. One about an hour south near Tillamook and 2 just to the north in the state of Washington. The Cape Disappointment light can be seen from Sunset Beach at night and the North Head light house is a little farther north and can also be seen from Sunset Beach. Both are fully functional and operated by the US Coast Guard. You can always stop at the light houses during the day and view them from the outside and take in the great views and during the summer months tours are available. Call 360-642-3078 for more info. Also, if your into maritime history then you really should visit the Maritime Museum in Astoria. The whole family will enjoy it.
Update: You can tour the North Head lighthouse daily noon until 4pm May through October . Admission is just $1 per head. Tours during the winter are limited to weekends
